To The Editor,
So, it is official.
We have a failing and collapsing county council and now we have an under-achieving police force.
As council tax bills drop through letterboxes this month, the people of Northamptonshire must wonder what on earth they are paying for - and why they are paying more for less.
Firstly, we have the Government report into the financial mess at our county council, now we have our police force described as 'requiring improvement' by inspectors.
Worryingly, the report states victims of crime in Northamptonshire sometimes receive 'a poor service' from the police and some crimes are being recorded incorrectly, with several incidents had been wrongly assigned to the telephone investigation team because not enough response officers were available to attend immediately.
Senior officers say building blocks are in place and improvements are on the way. Like other residents of this county, I do hope so. We are tired of paying more each year for decreasing services.
