In The Media & Newsletter » Margot Parker MEP - rail money should be diverted from HS2 project
I read with interest that Market Harborough MP Neil O'Brien has called on the Government to rethink its plans and extend electrification of the Midland Mainline as far north as Market Harborough.
Under the current proposals the upgrade would stop at Kettering, after the Government did a u-turn on its original plans for full electrification.
It would certainly seem to make sense to extend the scheme to Market Harborough and beyond, so the town can benefit in the long-run.
Of course, what should happen is that money for these schemes should be diverted from the HS2 vanity project to actually pay for something which makes economic sense but this Government seems intent on spending millions on a scheme which is not needed, nor is suitable for the country.
