margot parker, gender pay gap
In The Media & Newsletter » Margot Parker MEP letter to the press on the gender pay gap
To The Editor,
I note that the European Economic and Social Committee has welcomed the efforts made by the EU to address pay gaps between men and women.
Of course, moves to address these discrepancies are to be applauded but knowing how slowly the EU machine cranks through the gears, I do not hold out huge hopes of the situation changing very quickly.
Also, although the EU sees Europe as 'one state' and tends to adopt a 'one size fits all' criteria, there will be difficulties easing the gender pay gap problem.
For example, discrepancies vary wildly across the EU members states - the gender pay gap is less than ten per cent in Slovenia but 30 per cent in Estonia.
I will have more confidence this issue can be tackled in the UK , once we are out of the EU.
