In The Media & Newsletter » Margot Parker MEP - "let the public decide"
To The Editor,
I read with disappointment, although I have to say little surprise, about a new police 'contact centre' opening in Eastwood.
We all know the authorities are not awash with money and savings need to be made but this decimation of our police stations is a worry.
Only a couple of weeks ago I was concerned about the situation in Derby. Now in Nottinghamshire, a police contact centre will be opened, with council services under the same roof.
Sounds sensible? Maybe, until you consider that a member of the public can only walk in to the centre and ask advice by video link to a staff based at Radfod Road Police Station - eight miles away.
Why do the police not want to talk face to face anymore? What was wrong with old-fashioned police stations? Many victims won't want to talk over video to police officers miles away.
First the police disappeared from the streets, now they are disappearing from their own stations!
