I do hope the police and powers-that-be in Derby are listening to city shopkeepers and businesses.
Your recent report states they fear many shoppers are afraid to leave the Intu complex to visit them because they have to "run the gauntlet of drunks, drug users and aggressive beggars."
This is leading to customers being hassled so much they refuse to walk through the city centre to reach the older part of town.
This is simply not good enough and swift action is needed by the police and city council, particularly in the light of a recent report that Victoria Street is at the top of the criminal activity listings.
Business owners pay enough in rent and rates and expect good policing, while customers should be able to go about their life free from the fear of crime.
We will never attract people into our city and town centres if they are concerned about being mugged or attacked!
