This abhorrent procedure has no place in a civilised society - it has to be tackled head-on and stopped.

The practice involves ironing girls' chests with hot objects to delay breasts from growing, so they do not attract male attention - absolutely disgusting and hideous.

I have fought hard against the equally despicable practice of female genital mutilation, (FGM), but I fear breast ironing is being under-reported as well.

It is child abuse - plain and simple - and there has to be national and international steps taken to encourage the reporting of breast ironing.

The physical and mental trauma this disgusting practice causes is heart-breaking for the victims. It is abhorrent and is something we should, as a society, make clear is not acceptable under any circumstances.
