THE execution of an Iranian Mohammad Salas has been described as 'abhorrent' by MEP Margot Parker.
The 51-year-old was executed this morning (Monday), despite pleas from the international community.
Amnesty International called it a "huge miscarriage of justice."
He was sentenced to death for the murder of three police officers despite him retracting an earlier 'confession'. It was also claimed acted there was new evidence pointing to his innocence, with him also not being allowed access to a lawyer and key defence witnesses being ignored.
Mrs Parker said: "This man's human rights and indeed, his right to a fair trial have been openly ignored.
"I will be asking the EU to look at this and ensure we tell Iran it must carry our fair trials and respect peoples' basic human rights. This cannot be allowed to continue.
"If Iran cannot respect the idea of something as basic as a fair trial, then we should be looking at further restrictive measures - the international community has to stand up and be counted."
