I was delighted to read that Buckinghamshire County Council has passed a motion calling for HS2 to stop its works in the county.

I could not agree more with council leader Martin Tett, who said, 'There are far better ways to spend this obscene amount of money, including linking the north and rolling out ultra high broadband across the country.'

This Government has much more pressing transport needs to spend its money on - what passengers want is an affordable, comfortable, reliable and efficient rail network system, which delivers from north to south and from east to west.

Of course, what should happen is that money for these schemes should be diverted from the HS2 vanity project to actually pay for something which makes economic sense but this Government seems intent on spending millions on a scheme which is not needed, nor is suitable for the country.

Sadly, I feel common sense won't prevail.
