I was concerned to read the two hospital trusts in the greater Lincolnshire region have ran up deficits of nearly £70m in the past six months.

The deficits look likely to get even worse was we hit the winter months.

The concern here is that cuts could be made to claw back the deficit - patients and staff will be understandably worried.

This is, sadly, another example of our stretched NHS. We must take better care of taxpayers' money and ensure it is spent on frontline patient care.

The NHS needs policies based on common sense and adequate funding.
