UKIP MEP Margot Parker, who has Scottish parents and lives in the Corby borough, said: "It's little surprise to me the people of Corby have rejected the idea of breaking up the union - the Scots and English have had differences in the past but we have learned to live with each other amicably - and anyway having a few differences is not a reason for wholesale divorce surely?

"As a UKIP MEP I believe in our union and it's nice to see the majority of people in Corby do too!"
