'...UKIP MEP worried about effect on people who need vital service...'
UKIP'S MEP Margot Parker has expressed her concerns after the the closure of a mental health unit which helps people with drug and alcohol problems.
The Woodlands Unit in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire, will close for good in May.
Mrs Parker said: "Protestors picketed the entrance to the meeting and a petition of 168 names was also presented to Nottinghamshire Health Care NHS Trust, but to no avail.
"Times are really tough in the NHS and this is yet another example of vital services being savaged, or closed for good.
"Up and down the country, NHS Trusts, not just staff and patients, have to push against what appears to be austerity policies aimed at our beloved NHS.
"In the short-term, we also have to make sure those people who need the Woodlands Unit are properly cared for.
"Mental health and addiction are already conditions which often seem to be kicked into the long grass."
