To The Editor,
I was astonished and saddened when I read about the ridiculous decision to block the singing of Onward Christian Soldiers during the Remembrance Sunday service.
Members of Oadby Legion Club are, quite rightly, dismayed by this decision.
The Rev Steve Bailey has not come out and explained the decision but I understand the Diocese said it was a joint decision by the church and Oadby Royal British Legion.
The Legion Club, a separate body, has stated the vicar objects to the 'Christian bit.'
This is thoroughly depressing, with many people saying they will boycott the service.
What a great shame. On a day we should all be remembering those who fell, we instead have a situation where rows, bans and boycotts have taken over.
Commonsense seems to have fallen by the wayside yet again.
Yours faithfully, Margot Parker, UKIP deputy leader and MEP for Leicestershire
