Letter to the Leicestershire press on school places

To The Editor,

Dear Sir,

What a ridiculous state of affairs in Oadby, (My children still don't have a school place).

How on earth has a situation arisen whereby children still are not in school a month after term has started?

I have every sympathy for Dr Muhammad Shakeel, who now has two of his three children twiddling their thumbs at home.

Due to local schools nearby being full, he has had to reapply elsewhere.

And that process online means a further four -week wait to see if that application has been proved. He then has the horrendous situation where his three children will be at different schools in Oadby, Birstall and Wigston.

Surely, some commonsense should have been applied here. As the children's situation is 'temporary' they are not even entitled to home schooling.

You couldn't make it up.

Yours faithfully,

Margot Parker, MEP for Leicestershire
