In The Media & Newsletter » Letter on MEPs and pay
To The Editor,
I read with interest your letter from Patricia Williams, What do MEPs do for their salary?
I would be delighted to answer and although I could write an essay on the weekly activities of an MEP let me give your readers an insight.
There are monthly scheduled trips to Strasbourg, trips to Brussels - of which MEPs can attend up to three times a month depending on which meetings we have to attend. These trips also entail sessions in Parliament of course, where we can vote on up to 600 motions late into the night. MEPs also serve on committees , of which I am on two.
Of course, each week is also full of answering queries from constituents, including letter writing and e-mails.
I also manage my staff, both here in the constituency and in Brussels, who help with the day-to-day running of my activities.
Then there are the commitments I have in the UK - attending events, meetings, helping constituents, dealing with the media requests and the like, which can range from international television appearances to local newspaper articles.
This is a brief snapshot - if your reader would like to chat with my staff or myself then she is welcome to contact us on 01536 204503.
Kind regards, Margot Parker, UKIP for the East Midlands
