To The Editor,
I was appalled to read the harrowing story of the rape of teenage girl as punishment for her brother's crime of rape.
Your report states that 14 members of a Pakistani village council have been arrested for ordering the rape of the teenage girl as punishment for a rape committed by her brother in a suburb of Multan.
This truly shocking and sickening. These village councils are a traditional means of settling disputes where courts are not always accessible or trusted.
But let us remember these councils are illegal. It is our duty to make sure the international community puts pressure on Pakistan to come down hard on these so-called councils and makes sure those who pass these sickening laws are locked up.
