Dear Editor,

It appears Downing Street has put its 'feelings' about Nigel Farage ahead of the country's interests.

That is the only conclusion which can be drawn by the put-down to the President-elect of the United States' statement saying Mr Farage would be a great ambassador.

The world has changed.  Mr Farage would have been ideal for this role, with his close relationship with Donald Trump and the President'-elect's fondness for the UK.

And despite what the Government says, Mr Farage would do a fantastic job as our ambassador to the States. Politics is moving on. The days of partisan party politics is moving on. Let's not get left behind.

Yours faithfully,

Margot Parker, UKIP MEP for the East Midlands
