To The Editor,
After reading your latest report on Grantham Hospital, I am very hopeful we will once again see the accident and emergency unit opening for 24 hours a day.
You write that the recommendation to re-open - but not until December - was approved by the board of United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, (ULHT), subject to a staffing review.
Ever since Grantham A&E was closed overnight in August last year after I have spoken of my concern and worries for local people.
That's why it was good to read that the trust has been successful in securing the employment of more permanent, locum and agency middle grade doctors, which increases the number to 22.
Let us hope this is one story with a satisfactory ending for local people. A fully-functioning NHS is vital and must be protected.
