In The Media & Newsletter » Celebrating International Day of the Girl
To The Editor,
Many of your readers may not have known that we recently marked International Day of the Girl, (www.un.org/en/events/girlchild/).
It is celebrated each year on October 11 and it was created to recognise how hard it is being a girl - it aims to highlight and address the challenges girls face, while promoting girls' empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.
As my party's Women's and Equalities spokesperson, I am fully in favour of this project which is used by the United Nations to rally people behind the cause of empowering girls worldwide.
It is imperative we strive towards a fairer future to give women worldwide a voice and improve their quality of life and work towards equality.
Margot Parker, MEP for the East Midlands and the UKIP's Women's and Equalities spokesperson
