In The Media & Newsletter » Better and more affordable childcare is key
To The Editor,
I was pleased to read in your publication that Nottinghamshire County Council is actively encouraging parents and carers to find out if they are entitled to more free childcare.
As UKIP's Women's and Equalities spokesperson I am keen to pursue ways parents can get back into work without paying huge fees for people to care for their children.
Better and more affordable childcare is key - and let us remember that this childcare provision should also be available to parents working outside the normal 9am to 5pm working patterns.
There is huge, un-tapped workforce of women who simply cannot go back to work because, for example, they can only work weekends when their partner is home. The costs of childcare can make it very difficult for women to get back into the workplace.
The Government should be doing all it can to make sure these aspects are looked into closely when deciding childcare provision and costs.
