The British Pakistani Christian Association, alongside CitizenGo UK and Christian Voice has organised a vigil at the Pakistan Embassy in London on Monday 12th November from 2-3.30 pm for Asia Bibi, the Christian woman acquitted of committing blasphemy against the Islamic Prophet Muhammad.
The acquittal has led to mass protests across Pakistan and calls for Asia Bibi to be killed. Asia Bibi's life is in danger and MEP Margot Parker, who campaigned for her release, has called on the British government to offer her asylum.
A representative of the British Pakistani Christian Association has agreed to read out the following statement by Margot Parker at the vigil: "I call on the British Government to offer asylum to Asia Bibi and her family. "We live in a Christian country and I believe it is the Christian thing to do. Asia Bibi has been acquitted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan of the charges brought against her. "She must now be allowed to live in peace with her family in a country that can offer sanctuary to a genuine refugee fleeing for her life."
